Part time beekeeper: Sydney, NSW

The Rooftop Bees company is seeking a part-time beekeeper in Sydney!

We are a full-service beekeeping operation headquartered in Sydney. We deliver, install, and manage beehives for residences and businesses across the Sydney metro region. The data we collect via our hive visits supports honey bee health research at our technology partner Broodminder.

We offer flexible scheduling to accommodate your schedule. Ideally, candidates will be available for at least 2 - 4 beekeeping routes per month, though more frequent scheduling may be available. We offer a competitive hourly rate and are seeking a beekeeper to start ASAP.

IDEAL CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
  • Experience beekeeping (i.e. personal hives, professionally, completed bee courses, mentoring, etc.)

  • Consistent weekday availability

  • A valid NSW driver’s license

  • Access to a vehicle you feel comfortable transporting beekeeping equipment in, such as boxes, feeders, frames, bottom boards/top covers, etc. (preferred but not required)

  • Comfortable working independently in the field with support from remote managers

  • Access to a smartphone (preferred but not required)

  • Ability to communicate clearly, consistently, and promptly through phone and Google applications (Gmail, Calendar, Sheets, Drive, etc)

  • Willingness to take on additional, often last minute tasks/hive checks such as queen fixes, swarm catching, company events, etc.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 25kgs

RESPONSIBILITIES WILL INCLUDE
  • Service Rooftop Bees beehives in the Sydney metro region following monthly objectives

  • Record detailed information about the beehives through our record keeping program

  • Perform beehive installations, relocations, and removals

  • Maintain Rooftop Bees equipment including keeping inventory and construction

  • Administer pest treatments safely and efficiently

  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude with Rooftop Bees clients and teammates

  • Perform occasional site consultations with new clients to pick a location for a beehive according to guidelines provided

  • Facilitate extraction of client honey (using rental equipment to extract, filter, jar and label; or by transferring to city harvesting location)

  • Facilitate short workshop programs at client sites to deliver programming content
