How the Sensors Work

Temperature and humidity sensors are installed inside the brood nest of each of your hives. These are paired with an external device that sits nearby to capture ambient weather measurements and securely transmit the combined data to our cloud system.

For our apiarists, this continuous stream of data acts as a remote heartbeat. It allows us to seamlessly verify that a colony is active and healthy without having to physically open and disrupt the hive. Beyond basic health monitoring, these metrics provide early insights into internal brood production and can even warn us of impending swarm risks.

Understanding Hive Temperature

A healthy honey bee colony acts like a single warm-blooded organism. To protect their developing brood, bees actively heat and cool the hive to maintain a strict internal temperature of roughly 34.5°C, completely independent of the weather outside.

By comparing the Internal Temperature against the External Weather, we can instantly verify the health and population strength of the colony.
